Earth\Studies - SU-103 Carapace Jacket (Slate)

$350.00

The 21st century bore a proliferation of waterproofing technologies in apparel production. Taped seams, polymer coatings, and later - a hydro-repulsor field generator adapted for exploratory missions to the water-bearing planets of the Pleiades system. However, in 1990 in a region then known as Germany, a military pattern maker conceived a protective jacket with no shoulder seams, enabling one continuous piece of waterproof fabric in the upper garment to protect the wearer from rain without the aforementioned technologies. The Carapace Jacket follows this cue, and adds a stowable hood inspired by segmented beetle shells.

- Wind proof, water resistant, breathable
- Storm flap with snap closures
- 2-way Zipper with pulls
- 2 large welted pockets with interior mesh pockets
- Packable hood
- Accessories loop
- Adjustable velcro at wrists
- Compatible with MS-118 ESCEP Liner

  • Earth\Studies has developed a cult following since their first Experiment landed. With design cues ranging from brutalist architecture to vintage space suits and their focus on small-batch manufacturing and mindful growth, it's easy to see why.

Most pieces are made in India using handspun fabrics giving the technical shapes a natural feel. Mesh linings and pockets, nylon webbing belts, aluminum and plastic hardware and snaps used in place of buttons are just some of the ways synthetic fabrics are used. The result is pieces that feel designed but overall cozy, the details feel considered even the inside seams are cleanly taped. These details make an Earth\Studies piece one you can trust and rely on, one you can comfortably use for everyday excursions and one that connects us to the world around us.
